The Former Residence of Huang Shaoqian

The former residence of Huang Shaoqian is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

The former residence of Huang Shaoqian is located in Xiaba Village, Bama Township, Yinchai Town, Tiandong County, Baise City, covering a construction area of 100 square meters. In 1925, Huang Shaoqian enrolled at Baise Provincial No. 5 Middle School. During his time at school, he read progressive publications such as The Guide and New Youth, founded by the Chinese Communist Party, embraced revolutionary ideals, and participated in revolutionary activities. In July 1927, after graduating and returning to Bama Village, he organized progressive youths to carry out revolutionary activities. In November, with the help of Yu Shaojie, a member of the Communist Party working on rural movements in the Youjiang region, a peasant association was established in Bama Village, along with an armed peasant force of 500 members, with Huang Shaoqian serving as the battalion commander. On January 8, 1928, Huang Shaoqian led the peasant army to attack Xiangdu County town, inspiring the local populace. In September 1929, the peasant forces in Xiangdu County were combined into the Peasant Self-Defense Army, with Huang Shaoqian appointed as the overall commander. On March 14, 1930, Deng Xiaoping, escorted by a company of the Red Eighth Army, set off from Donghua, Jingxi, heading toward the Youjiang region. When passing through Bama, he stayed at Huang Shaoqian’s home for three days, inspecting and guiding the revolutionary work there. Before departing, he personally wrote a widely circulated poem of the time for Huang Shaoqian, encouraging him to remain a lifelong revolutionary. In the winter of 1930, as the main force of the Red Seventh Army marched northward, the 21st Division was established. The Red Guards of Xiangdu North District under Huang Shaoqian’s leadership merged with the Guidong County Duoyang Red Guards to form the Independent Regiment of the 21st Division, consisting of two battalions, with Huang Shaoqian appointed as the commander of the second battalion. By the end of 1931, the 62nd Regiment and the Independent Regiment merged into the 62nd Regiment, with Huang Shaoqian’s forces coming under its command. In 1934, Huang Shaoqian joined the Chinese Communist Party. In early 1935, the Military Committee of the Lower Youjiang Region was established, and Huang Shaoqian was elected as a member. The committee organized two brigades, with Huang Shaoqian serving as commander of the second brigade. On August 2, 1936, while presiding over a cadres' meeting of the second brigade in Bama Village, Xiangdu County, Huang Shaoqian was unfortunately assassinated by a spy at the age of 33.

The residence is a three-bay earthen-brick tile house. Yinchai Town has designated the residence as the Bama Red Seventh Army Activity Exhibition Room. On January 1, 2009, it was listed as a patriotic education base by the Baise Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government.
