Martyrs' Cemetery

The martyrs' cemetery was built in 1957 within Fenghuangshan Park in the northern part of the county town. It was established by the people of Luocheng to commemorate 14 brave martyrs — including Zou Yanzhao and Yang Guanghui — who sacrificed their lives fighting bandits during the early years of liberation. The cemetery features a martyrs' tower and martyrs' tombs. Within the tombs lie the loyal spirits of the martyrs, surrounded by lush eucalyptus woods. In 1984, it was relocated to the foot of Hongzhu Mountain in the northeastern suburbs of the county town, covering an area of 3,200 square meters. The cemetery is divided into upper and lower sections. The upper section has a central memorial tower, which stands 16 meters tall and is topped with a five-pointed star. In front of the tombs is a monument inscribed with the names of the fallen, including those who died during the Huanghuagang Uprising of the Xinhai Revolution, as well as commanders and soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War, the early anti-bandit campaigns, and the self-defense counterattacks — totaling 176 martyrs. On both the east and west sides of the memorial tower are green lawns enclosed by railings, with cedar trees planted between the lawns and the railings. The lower section consists of two pathways, each made up of 43 steps. Tower pines are planted between the steps, and the edges of the steps are lined with undulating railings. The entire cemetery exudes solemnity, grandeur, and majesty.
