The former command post of the peasant army uprising from Guiping, Pingnan, and Wuxuan counties is located in Anzhong Village, Jintian Town, Guiping City, Guangxi.
After the April 12th Incident in 1927, in order to implement the directives from the Guangdong Provincial Committee, the Guangxi Regional Committee of the Chinese Communist Party decided to launch an uprising in May. In April, Su Qili, a Communist Party member, a third-term student of the Guangzhou Peasant Movement Training Institute, a special envoy of the Peasant Department, and a standing committee member of the Guangxi Special Committee, along with key figures in the workers’ and peasants’ movements from Jiangkou and Jintian such as Gu Tianmin, Deng Yusheng, and Hu Yiqing, held a secret meeting. They established the “Guangxi Wuping, Pingguan, and Guixian Three-County Peasant Association Military Commission” in Panlong Village, Jintian Town, Guiping. They mobilized the peasant armies from the three counties to carry out an armed uprising to resist the massacre by the Kuomintang. On May 12th, under the joint command of military commission leaders Su Qili, Gu Tianmin, and Deng Yusheng, 3,000 peasant soldiers were deployed and divided into three routes. They advanced through mountain paths overnight toward the Zijing Mountain area to attack the local tyrant Liu Jintang. Among them, Chang Yiting and Zhang Xiangming led part of the peasant army through Fengmen’ao into Sanjiang, directly striking at Liu Jintang’s stronghold in Daping Village, Zijing Town. The Guiping peasant army attacked Shatian, Sanjiang, and Daping in separate routes. The peasant soldiers besieging Daping, lacking experience in assault operations and equipped with poor weaponry, were repeatedly repelled by fierce gunfire during several charges, suffering many casualties. After three days and four nights of battle, there was still no progress. The Pingnan peasant army besieging Pandidong also failed to achieve their expected objectives and could not reinforce the Daping forces. While the battle for Daping reached a stalemate, local tyrants Chen Guangjue and Lu Baoshan from the northern region urgently wired the Guangxi provincial government to request military intervention to rescue Liu Jintang. Regiment Commander Ye Conghua led two battalions of troops along with County Magistrate Wu Shaobin to “mediate” in Zijing, suppressing the uprising. The May Uprising thus ended in failure. The command center of this uprising was located in Panlong Tun, Anzhong Village, Jintian Town, Guiping County.
