Former Site of the Bible Institute of Kwangsi, Wuzhou

The Bible Institute of Kwangsi in Wuzhou was established in 1899 in Wuzhou, Guangxi, by Dr. Robert Glover, a Western missionary from the Christian and Missionary Alliance. In 1949, under the leadership of Pastor Andrew Gih, the institute moved to a remote island in Hong Kong. It continued its mission of theological education, with Pastor Andrew Gih and his wife, Ruth Paxson (an American), serving as the first president of the relocated institute for over twenty years, among many other contributions.

Former Site of the Bible Institute of Kwangsi: In 1897 (the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty), China and Britain signed the "Convention Between Great Britain and China Relating to Burmah and Thibet," with an annex specifically designating Wuzhou as a treaty port for foreign trade. Foreign missionaries subsequently began their evangelistic activities in Wuzhou. In 1899, Dr. Robert Glover of the American Christian and Missionary Alliance founded the "Kwangsi Theological School" on Sifang Road in Wuzhou, which was later renamed the "Kwangsi Men's School." In 1902, the "Kwangsi Women's School" was established on Zhushan. In 1937, the two schools merged on Zhushan and were renamed the "Bible Institute of Kwangsi." In 1949, the Bible Institute of Kwangsi relocated to Cheung Chau, Hong Kong. The Wuzhou Bible Institute was the first school established by the Christian and Missionary Alliance in its various mission fields and also the second theological education institution founded globally by the Alliance.
