Shengwen Garden

Shengwen Garden is located on the south bank of the Xijiang River in Hedong District, Wuzhou City. It is a 4-kilometer drive from the south end of Yunlong Bridge, through Wangbu Village to Fuchong. The garden boasts beautiful mountains and clear waters, with ancient trees towering overhead, and the Tropic of Cancer running right through it. This unique climate has resulted in an exceptionally rich variety of plants in the area: including fern species known as "living plant fossils" that date back to the ancient Jurassic period, the kapur tree—one of the world’s top ten famous timbers, and rare tree species that grow over thirty meters tall and require several people to encircle.

The "Five Sons Passing the Imperial Exams" tree, known as the foremost tree in South China, is over 200 years old, stands 32 meters tall, and has five trunks growing from a single root—like a father with his five sons. After this tree was planted, five consecutive generations of the family produced individuals who achieved top honors in the imperial examinations. To commemorate this, the tree and the surrounding scenery were named “Five Sons Passing the Imperial Exams.”

Art Gallery:

Historically, Wuzhou has revered Confucius. The art gallery is meticulously carved from the finest bluestone in China, stretching over 80 meters in length. It depicts the life and deeds of Confucius in pictures and text—a rare and comprehensive portrayal in Wuzhou of this sage, honored as the “Greatest Teacher of All Generations.”

The scenic area makes full use of its unique geographical location and climatic advantages due to the Tropic of Cancer running through it. A small observatory has been planned, and the area’s abundant existing plant resources have been utilized rationally. Over 2,000 acres of mountainous land have been designated to create attractions such as a rare tree species garden, camellia garden, peach blossom garden, and orchid garden. The area also preserves and incorporates native species such as wild kapur trees (a nationally rare and endangered plant, under second-class national protection), "living plant fossil" tree ferns, wild ferns, climbing plants, hanging plants, strangler plants, parasitic plants, and wild rice.
