Zhushan Martyrs' Cemetery

Zhushan Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

On Baihe Mountain in Riverside Park, Wuzhou City, Guangxi, stands the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument. It commemorates the spirit of Wuzhou people in their anti-imperialist struggle, as well as the heroic history of revolutionary martyrs who fought relentlessly under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. In January 1999, with the consent of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Party Committee and the People's Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it was designated as a Patriotic Education Base of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

The October Revolution brought Marxism to China with a single cannon shot. In October 1925, the first Chinese Communist Party branch in Guangxi — the Wuzhou Branch — was established. From then on, the people of Wuzhou, with their spirit of fighting against imperialism and feudalism, carried out indomitable struggles for the establishment of New China under the leadership of Chinese Communists.

In September 1927, Liao Mengqiao, Secretary of the Guangxi Provincial Committee of the CPC, and Huang Shitao, head of the Organization Department of the Committee, along with 17 other comrades, were unfortunately arrested and subjected to severe torture. However, they never divulged any party secrets. As they were escorted to the execution ground, they sang "The Internationale" and shouted slogans such as "Long live the Communist Party," facing death with unyielding courage.

In mid-October 1926, the communication office of the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC Guangxi in Wuzhou was destroyed by the enemy, and CPC members Guo Jinshui, Li Xiunong, Tan Jingshao, and others were arrested. On their way to the execution ground, Guo Jinshui and his comrades fearlessly shouted slogans such as "Long live the Communist Party of China!" and "Down with the reactionaries!", deeply moving and bringing tears to the crowds along the route.

Martyr Li Suqiu joined the Chinese New Democratic Youth League in early 1926, served as the secretary of the Youth League branch at Cangwu County Girls' Normal School, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Guangxi Provincial Youth League.

On April 12, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched a counter-revolutionary coup in Shanghai. On the morning of the 17th, revolutionaries including Li Suqiu were arrested and imprisoned by the reactionary Kuomintang. Despite brutal torture by the enemy, Li Suqiu and 12 other comrades remained resolute and unyielding. They were martyred heroically on October 7, 1927.

Countless revolutionary martyrs fought relentlessly and sacrificed their lives, finally bringing about the liberation of Wuzhou. After the founding of New China, to forever commemorate the heroic deeds of these martyrs, Wuzhou City erected this Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument in 1957. The monument stands 15.33 meters tall on a square base measuring 10 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 1.7 meters high. The bold inscriptions on the monument — "Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument" and "Eternal Glory to the Revolutionary Martyrs" — embody the revolutionary spirit of the martyrs, eternal as the mountains and rivers, shining alongside the sun and moon.

Since the unveiling of the Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument, every Qingming Festival, Wuzhou’s Party and government leaders, officials, citizens, and students from elementary to high schools visit the site in solemn reverence to pay tribute to the revolutionary martyrs.

From being a Young Pioneer to a member of the Youth League, every time I held a white flower and stood before the monument, a deep sense of reverence welled up inside me, and I was inspired by the noble sentiments of the martyrs. It was through such inspiration and emotion that I came to understand the strong sense of responsibility these heroes had for our nation and country, and I learned not only to emulate their spirit but also to embody that patriotism and sense of duty in my daily life and actions.

The revolutionary spirit of the martyrs will forever inspire us to unite, strive, and forge ahead on the journey toward building a modern and powerful nation.
