The Modern Architectural Complex of Wuzhou

Wuzhou is the birthplace of Lingnan culture and Pearl River culture. The arcade street area stands as a historical testament to Wuzhou’s bustling commerce over the past century. The arcade culture in Wuzhou has become a beautiful highlight of the local landscape. In 2003, Wuzhou completed the construction of its flood control embankment, making the recurring floods that plagued the city every year a thing of the past. However, the unique architectural style of the arcades has been preserved as a historical witness. There are currently 22 remaining arcade streets, stretching a total length of 7 kilometers, with the longest extending up to 2,530 meters. The complex includes 560 arcade buildings, and its vast scale and large number are rare in China, making it truly deserving of the title “China’s Arcade Architecture Museum City.”

In May 2013, the Modern Architectural Complex of Wuzhou was announced as part of the seventh group of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
