Zhi Zheng Ancestral Hall

Zhi Zheng Ancestral Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

Zhi Zheng Ancestral Hall is located behind the ancient village of Xiqi in Xianqiao, Rongcheng District, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province. Built in 1908, it was constructed by descendants of the 10th-generation ancestors Yizhi and Chizheng of the Guxi Chen clan as their ancestral temple. The building faces south and features a two-courtyard-style ancestral hall structure, flanked by four "Four-Point Gold" buildings on either side, with a large lime-paved courtyard in front.

The front of the first courtyard features a recessed entrance gateway with three doors. The central door bears the inscription “Zhi Zheng Ancestral Hall” on the front lintel and “Hear the Voice, See the Presence” on the back, while the side doors are inscribed with “Paying Homage to Glory” and “Venerating Virtue and Emulating the Wise.” In front of the gate stand octagonal columns, with carved wooden decorations on the beam frames above. The front and rear halls are connected by side corridors and a central courtyard, which houses an altar pavilion at its center. The pavilion roof features a “nine-ridged hip-and-gable roof,” creating a contrast with the surrounding flush-gable roofs and adding visual diversity to the architectural landscape. Well-preserved wood carvings include decorative motifs of antiquities, flowers, fruits, insects, and auspicious birds and beasts.

Zhi Zheng Ancestral Hall is a classic example of Qing dynasty ancestral hall architecture. Its design, construction, and ornamentation were all completed by skilled craftsmen from Xiqi Village itself. It serves as a vivid representation of local culture and holds significant historical, artistic, and scientific research value.

In 2014, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jieyang City.

On December 10, 2015, Zhi Zheng Ancestral Hall was approved and announced by the People's Government of Guangdong Province as part of the eighth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
