The enclosing wall of the Jieyang County Yamen is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.

The enclosing wall of the Jieyang County Yamen is located in Yongge Community, Zhongshan Subdistrict, Rongcheng District, Jieyang City.

After the reinstatement of Jieyang County during the Southern Song Dynasty, only government offices and streets were built, with no city walls constructed. By the Zhizheng era of the Yuan Dynasty, frequent raids by Japanese pirates posed a threat. The region, both inside and outside the county, was entirely flat without any natural defenses, making it difficult to guard against attacks. Moreover, as the Mongols ruled China, ethnic oppression was intense—often resorting to violent suppression of the Han people—which led to continuous peasant uprisings that frequently endangered the safety of the county seat. At the time, the magistrate of Jieyang County was the Mongol Qin Buda, who ordered the construction of both inner and outer city walls. The outer wall was built from rammed earth, while the inner wall was constructed of stone. The inner wall spanned 300 zhang in length, encircling the entire county yamen. During the Ming Dynasty, the inner wall was further expanded by an additional 100 zhang, bringing its total length to 400 zhang. It stood 1.5 zhang high, with foundations 1.4 zhang thick, mostly built from stone and partially from shell-lime compacted material, making it extremely sturdy—like an impregnable fortress. As a result, Jieyang County came to have two layers of city walls, inner and outer, creating a city within a city—an arrangement rarely seen.

In 2012, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.
