Huangqi Mountain Scenic Area is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Huangqi Mountain is situated in the northern part of Jieyang City in the Chaoshan region of Guangdong Province. It lies about 4 kilometers northeast of Rongcheng District, with Xiaocui Road in the city extending all the way to the park gate. The main peak has an elevation of 293.1 meters, and the total area spans 1,180 hectares, making up the Huangqi Mountain Scenic Area. This area features dense forests, majestic rocks, and many historical landmarks. It was historically known for the saying “nine nunneries and eighteen temples.” Huangqi Mountain symbolizes Jieyang as a historic and cultural city. Since ancient times, it has been listed as one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Jieyang” under the name “Huangqi Evening Greenery,” and is the most famous mountain in Jieyang.

Huangqi Mountain is located 4 kilometers north of Jieyang City center, with Xiaocui Road extending right to the park entrance. The North River of the Rongjiang flows gently at the foot of the mountain. The main peak reaches an elevation of 293.1 meters, and the total area covers 1,180 hectares. Huangqi Mountain is a symbol of Jieyang as a historic and cultural city. It has long been celebrated as one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Jieyang” under the name “Huangqi Evening Greenery,” making it the most renowned mountain in Jieyang. The mountain features nine nunneries and eighteen rock caves, with Qishan Tower atop the summit. Within the mountain, there are historical sites such as Yuerong Tomb, Luyun Temple, and Woyun Cave, along with over twenty other attractions including cliff inscriptions such as “Coastal Land of Elegance.” There are also rare and ancient locust trees, picturesque reservoirs, and fine fruits typical of southern China.

Ascending from the southern foothills and turning east at the fork, you will find Yuerong Tomb, Zhugang Rock, Fenggang Rock, and Luyun Temple (During the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty, Feng Yuanbiao, the magistrate of Jieyang County, buried his concubine Yuerong in Zhugang Rock and built Luyun Temple. A bell was cast to commemorate this event.). To the west of the mountain lies Chongguang Rock (also known as Songguang Rock), which features numerous ancient stone inscriptions, including several notable works. Reaching the summit, you’ll see Qishan Tower. From here, you can overlook the surrounding peaks as if they were gathered together, and the Rongjiang River flowing like a silk ribbon. At sunset, when the sunlight reflects off the landscape, the nearby villages and distant cityscapes present a boundless, breathtaking view—this is the scene depicted in the ancient “Eight Scenic Spots of Jieyang” known as “Huangqi Evening Greenery.”

The mountain features nine nunneries and eighteen rock caves, with Qishan Tower at its summit. Within the mountain, there are historical sites such as Yuerong Tomb, Luyun Temple, and Woyun Cave, along with over twenty attractions including cliff inscriptions such as “Coastal Land of Elegance.” There are also rare ancient locust trees, scenic reservoirs, and fine fruits typical of southern China. It is a natural scenic area characterized by its mountains, rocks, forests, water bodies, and historical sites. The area includes three main zones and eight key attractions. The famous Eight Scenic Views are: Pagoda Panorama, Grotto Spring Quest, Ancient Pavilion Charm, Luyun Bell Chime, Phoenix Resting Amid Clouds, Zhugang Evening Verdure, Heavenly Summit Dawn, and Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix. Climbing Huangqi Mountain, you can overlook the Rongjiang River winding like a colorful ribbon, gaze over the vast flatlands stretching into the distance, watch the setting sun descend, and see flocks of birds returning to their nests, all bathed in the glow of the afterglow—an enchanting scene that enhances the beauty of “Huangqi Evening Greenery.” The southern charm of the landscape captivates visitors, making them linger. Huangqi Mountain Forest Park is a natural scenic area rich in local character, seamlessly blending mountains, rocks, forests, water, and historical sites.
