Fang Fang Memorial Hall
Fang Fang Memorial Hall, built in Hongyang Cultural Square, is a four-story building with an area of approximately 2,700 m². The museum was established to commemorate Fang Fang, a pioneer of China's New Democratic Revolution, a veteran proletarian revolutionary, a tested and loyal communist fighter, and an outstanding leader in the nation’s overseas Chinese affairs.
Comrade Fang Fang was from Xicun Village, Hongyang Town. In his youth, he pursued truth and devoted himself to the revolutionary struggle against imperialism and feudalism. In 1919, during the May Fourth Movement, he served as the president of the Puning Student Union. In the spring of 1926, he joined the Communist Party of China. He held various positions including Secretary of the Chao’an County Party Branch, Secretary of the Puning County Party Committee, Secretary of the Shantou Municipal Party Committee, Secretary of the Shanghang Central County Party Committee in Fujian, Secretary of the Workers’ Committee of the Min-Yue-Gan Border Region Provincial Party Committee, Minister of Propaganda and Director of the Armed Forces Department of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Southern Work Committee, Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hong Kong Sub-bureau, and Secretary of the South China Sub-bureau. After the liberation, he served as the Third Secretary of the South China Sub-bureau of the CPC Central Committee, First Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, Deputy Minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, Party Group Secretary and Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission, and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. He was elected as a delegate to the 7th and 8th National Congresses of the Communist Party of China, and as a representative to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd National People’s Congresses, as well as a member of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd National Committees of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. During the Cultural Revolution, Comrade Fang Fang suffered brutal persecution and passed away in September 1971 with grievances unredressed. In March 1979, the CPC Central Committee rehabilitated him, restored his reputation, and held a memorial service in his honor.
The establishment of the “Fang Fang Memorial Hall” in Comrade Fang Fang’s hometown—Hongyang Town, Puning City—has been a long-cherished wish of the 1.6 million people of Puning, as well as of the vast overseas Chinese and compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao.
