The Former Residence of Fang Yao, also known as De'an Li, is located southeast of Hongyang Town in Puning City. It was the residence of Fang Yao, who served as the Viceroy of the Guangdong Navy during the Qing Dynasty. Construction began in the seventh year of the Tongzhi reign (1868) and was completed over the following twenty years. The complex includes the Old Fortified Village, Middle Fortified Village, New De'an Li, and Shao Garden. The Old Fortified Village features an architectural layout known as "A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix," while the Middle Fortified Village and New De'an Li follow the "Four Horses Pulling a Cart" design. The three fortified villages are interconnected, comprising a total of 773 rooms, surrounded by a protective moat, and covering an overall area of over 40,000 square meters. It is a rare and large-scale mansion-style architectural complex in Guangdong Province.
