Houshan Site

The Houshan Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Houshan Site is located on the southeastern slope of Hou Mountain in Tangtabu Village, Chipu Town. It was discovered in October 1983 by the county cultural relics survey team. In December of the same year, a joint excavation was carried out by the Guangdong Provincial Museum, the Shantou City cultural relics department, and the county cultural relics bureau. A total of nine excavation squares were opened, covering an area of 200 square meters. Artifacts unearthed include stone adzes, stone arrowheads, stone grinding tools, crystal artifacts, pottery pots, pottery jars, pottery beans, pottery cauldrons, pottery bowls, and other ancient production tools and daily utensils. The chicken-shaped pottery pot is a typical artifact of the Houshan Site. Ten rectangular earthen pit tombs were excavated and cleared; all tombs faced east-west, with skeletal remains decayed, and included burial objects such as pottery and stone tools. The Houshan Site is considered a cultural remnant from the late Neolithic period or the transitional phase into the early Bronze Age in eastern Guangdong.
