Tomb of Xiao Duanmeng

The Tomb of Xiao Duanmeng is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Tomb of Xiao Duanmeng is located on the slope of Niudi Hill in Huizhai Village, Dananshan Town, Puning City. It is an earthen tomb with a mound. The gravestone is inscribed in intaglio with the text: “The tomb of the imperial scholar, civil official of the Wenyuan Rank, and imperial censor of Zhejiang Circuit, Tongye Xiao; and his wife, Yao, honored as Rujin (learned lady) of Guancheng, bestowed by the Ming Dynasty.” The tomb is shaped like an armchair and covers an area of about 100 square meters. It has been excavated in the past. Currently, the remaining structures include a stone-carved dragon-shaped grave hand and the underlying stone wall.

Xiao Duanmeng, styled Yuki, was a native of Chaoyang. In the 30th year of the Jiajing reign, he passed the imperial examination and was appointed as an imperial censor of Shandong Circuit. Soon after, he was assigned to inspect Jiangxi, where he fell ill and died. He authored the Collected Works of Tongye. Volume 28 of the Qianlong-era Gazetteer of Chaozhou Prefecture, under the section “Biographies · Eminent Officials,” contains his biography.
