The former site of the military decision-making meeting of the command headquarters of the southern expeditionary forces of the Nanchang Uprising is a cultural relic protection unit of Guangdong Province.
The former site of the military decision-making meeting of the command headquarters of the "August 1st" Nanchang Uprising southern expeditionary forces in Puning is located at No. 1 Xinhe East Road, Liusha, Puning, within the Liusha Church.
On September 30, 1927, the Nanchang Uprising forces withdrew from Chaoshan and arrived in Liusha Town, Puning, establishing their command headquarters in the Liusha Church. On October 2nd, the Revolutionary Committee and members of the command jointly held an emergency meeting. The meeting was presided over by Zhou Enlai, and attendees included Zhang Tailei, Peng Pai, Liu Bocheng, Yun Daiying, Lin Boqu, Tan Pingshan, Wu Yuzhang, Xu Teli, Zhou Yiqun, Guo Moruo, Liao Qianwu, Zhang Guotao, Li Lisan, Guo Liang, He Chang, as well as Yang Shihun, Secretary of the Shantou Municipal Party Committee. The meeting primarily involved Zhang Tailei, alternate member of the Provisional Politburo and Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, who conveyed the spirit of the CCP Central Committee’s August 7th Emergency Meeting and discussed the final decisions regarding the uprising forces.
On October 3rd, He Long, Ye Ting, and Nie Rongzhen also arrived in Liusha from Tangkeng. That noon, Zhou Enlai convened another meeting to summarize the experiences and lessons learned by the uprising forces after advancing into Guangdong. Major decisions were made in accordance with the directives of the Central Provisional Politburo: to transform the Chinese Nationalist Revolutionary Committee established during the Nanchang Uprising into a Soviet; to abandon the flag of the Kuomintang and raise the red flag with hammer and sickle, placing the revolution under the sole leadership of the Communist Party of China; and to move the uprising forces to Haifeng-Lufeng to join forces with local peasant militias and establish a revolutionary base.
In December 1979, the People's Government of Guangdong Province designated it as a cultural relic protection unit.
