Chaoyang Xiyuan

Chaoyang Xiyuan is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Chaoyang Xiyuan is located on the east side of Xihuan Cheng Road, Wenguang Subdistrict, Chaoyang City. It was established by local resident Xiao Qin. Construction began in the 24th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1898) and was completed in the first year of the Xuantong reign (1909). Covering an area of approximately 1,330 square meters with a built-up area of around 1,000 square meters, it is divided into three parts: a study, the Fangshan Mountain House and rockery, and the courtyard along with a hexagonal pavilion. The Fangshan Mountain House and rockery form the essence of Xiyuan, covering an area of about 500 square meters. Its architectural art is renowned both near and far, characterized by a fusion of traditional Chinese and Western, ancient and modern garden design elements. The pavilions and rockeries feature irregular prismatic shapes, while the stone staircase is constructed based on mechanical principles and is entirely dry-laid with flagstones. In addition, Xia Tonghe (a native of Guizhou), the top imperial scholar of the 1898 Guangxu Gengxu Examination Class, inscribed the plaque for the main gate of Xiyuan, and there are also over ten inscriptions by other notable figures carved within the rockery.

In 1985, the People's Government of Chaoyang County designated it as a cultural heritage protection unit.
