Chaoyang Heping Bridge

The Chaoyang Heping Bridge is located in Xinhe Village, Heping Town, Chaoyang City. Spanning the Lian River, it was historically known as “the Rainbow Bridge Crossing the Lian,” and is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Chaoyang. The entire bridge is 90 meters long and 3 meters wide. In the second year of the Xuanhe era of the Song Dynasty (1120), the monk Dafeng built 16 arches before passing away, after which a local villager named Cai Gongyuan completed the remaining two arches on the northern and southern banks. The structure is made of stone and wood, with the highest bridge pier head being 15 meters and the lowest 13 meters. Viewed from above, the bridge appears straight, but from the side, the staggered pier heads form a graceful curve. The bridge piers feature cutwaters that help dissipate the force of the rising and falling river tides. The bridge has undergone several renovations since the fourth year of the Tai Ding era of the Yuan Dynasty (1324). In 1992, the Heping Town People's Government oversaw another major restoration.

In 1985, the Chaoyang County People's Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit.
