Destination Introduction

Prince Shuncheng’s Mansion is located on Zhaodengyu Road in Xicheng District. Prince Shuncheng, named Lekdehun, was the second son of Shahalin, who was the third son of Daišan, Prince Li. In the fifth year of the Shunzhi reign (1648), he was granted the title of Prince Shuncheng and became one of the “Eight Iron-Capped Princes” from the founding of the Qing Dynasty.

In 1994, Prince Shuncheng’s Mansion was relocated to the eastern part of Beijing’s Chaoyang Park. Today, the mansion is surrounded by colorful flower beds and lush green lawns. Its garden-like layout has earned it the nickname of an “earthly paradise” for leisure, strolling, and recreation.

The layout of the mansion is divided into three sections within the outer wall. The central section houses the main buildings, following the typical layout of other princely mansions—front halls for ceremonies and rear quarters for living—including the main gate (palace gate), the main hall, side wing rooms, rear hall, and rear sleeping quarters (the original rear building no longer exists). The east and west sections served as residential areas. When Zhang Zuolin occupied Beijing, he used the mansion as his Grand Marshal’s Office. After 1949, it served as the office location for the standing institutions of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The CPPCC Auditorium was built just outside the main gate of the mansion, and the main central buildings have been largely preserved intact. The front and rear courtyards of the eastern section still retain their original layout. It was designated as a key cultural relic protection site of Beijing in 1984.
