The Huang Family Ancestral House

The Huang Family Ancestral House is a cultural relic protection unit of Shantou City.

The Huang Family Ancestral House, also known as the Scholar of the Zhuangyuan’s Residence, is located in Longmei Village, Longdu Town. Huang Shian, a native of Longmei Village, was the teacher of Lin Dachen, the top imperial scholar (Zhuangyuan) of Chaozhou during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty. This residence was built by imperial decree upon the request of Lin Dachen for Huang Shian. The entire structure features a hard mountain-style roof and a three-courtyard earthen and wooden construction, with an exquisitely delicate design. The stone plaque above the main gate is inscribed with the four characters “Huang Shi Jia Di” (Huang Family Ancestral House), and the door couplet reads “Scholar of the Zhuangyuan’s Residence, Exemplary Home of Jinshi Lineage,” signed “Presented by Disciple Lin Dachen,” all handwritten by Lin Dachen himself. This residence is now a municipal-level key cultural relic protection unit.

It serves as a demonstration base for the production of premium and rare fruits, high-quality corn, and a production base for the “Vegetable Basket Project” in Shantou City. Longdu is situated on the alluvial plain of the Han River Delta, with fertile soil rich in organic matter. The area enjoys a subtropical climate with moderate sunlight and rainfall. It is surrounded on three sides by the southern and northern branches of the Han River, enabling direct irrigation from the river, thus offering superior natural conditions suitable for growing fruits, potatoes, and pollution-free vegetables.
