Red Head Boat Park

Chenghai Red Head Boat Park is located on the north bank of Waisha River, a tributary of the Han River in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, China, covering an area of 3.04 hectares. The park began construction in February 1999 and was completed in 2002, with a total investment of over 20 million yuan. The park displays the Teochew people's spirit of "unity, striving, expansion, and innovation."

The giant stone sculpture of the "Red Head Boat" in the park was created by renowned Chaozhou sculptor Tang Daxi. The entire sculpture consists of a platform and the boat body, with the base of the hull measuring 40.8 meters in length and 10 meters in width. The towering bow stands 13 meters high, and the lofty mast reaches 28 meters. The boat’s face is carved from Sichuan’s “China Red” stone, while the vivid eyes are made of black limestone. The bow bears the eight gilded characters “海不扬波” (The Sea Stays Calm) and “顺风得利” (Smooth Sailing Brings Profit). Visitors can climb the stone steps to the “deck” for a view of the beautiful scenery of the Han River Delta.

Chenghai is the home of the Red Head Boat. In the past, Teochew people sailed across oceans on these boats to seek livelihoods abroad, settling in foreign lands, working hard, and building prosperous communities. Today, the Red Head Boat has become a symbol of cultural and economic exchange between China and overseas communities.
