Tang Boyuan Memorial Hall

To commemorate this luminary of Neo-Confucianism from the Chaoshan region, in recent years Mr. Tang Liansong funded and oversaw the construction of the “Tang Boyuan Memorial Hall.” The hall is located within the Taoyuan Xiehe Eco-Park in Binyuan, Xinan Town, about 10 kilometers north of Chengcheng. Covering an area of over 100 acres, the park features a complex of over 2,600 square meters, with pavilions, towers, and serene gardens, highly distinctive in character. The Tang Boyuan Memorial Hall is built against a hillside and faces southeast, adopting the Ming-style flush-gable roof architecture typical of Chaoshan. It showcases traditional Chaoshan decorative arts such as wood carving, stone carving, ceramic inlay, and murals. The plaque above the ancestral hall’s entrance, inscribed with “Tang Boyuan Memorial Hall,” was handwritten by Wu Nansheng, former Chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, while Huang Zanfa, former Party Committee Secretary of Shantou University, authored the inscription for the memorial. Upon entering the gate, the central figure in the main hall is a seated statue of Tang Boyuan—wearing an official hat, court attire, and black boots, rendered in striking lifelike detail. Hanging above the main hall is a horizontal plaque bestowed by Emperor Xizong of the Ming Dynasty, inscribed with “Neo-Confucianism Master.” Flanking it is a couplet: “A heart of integrity in assessing official deeds, two memorials exemplifying scholarly virtue.” The corridors display materials related to Tang Boyuan’s life and some of his poems and writings. The hall also houses calligraphic masterpieces including poems and couplets by local Chaoshan literati. Within the park, attractions such as the “Drunken Classics Tower” and “Fishing Platform” have been built, making it a comprehensive scenic area integrating historical culture, garden landscapes, and leisure entertainment—adding a beautifully landscaped and pleasant tourist destination to Chenghai. Today, only remnants of Tang Boyuan’s ancestral home can be seen, including a century-old jackfruit tree and an ancient well. Cultural relics such as the “Tang Clan Ancestral Temple,” the plaque inscribed with “Loyal Piety Lives On,” and Tang Boyuan’s tombstone are well-preserved, holding certain tourism development potential.

Xianmen Village: Overview of Xianmen Village

Xianmen Village is situated on the eastern side of the southern foothills of Nanzhi in Xinan Town. It is a remote old revolutionary base village with a current population of 1,013 people, across 280 households, including 989 agricultural residents and 24 non-agricultural residents. The village has one Party branch with 38 members, and is divided into three villager groups. With a cultivated land area of just over 160 acres—less than 0.15 acres per capita—it is a purely agricultural community, generating less than 30,000 yuan in collective economic income annually. Agricultural production mainly includes bananas, jujubes, guavas, and strawberries.
