Xianliang Temple
Xianliang Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Beijing Municipality.
Destination Introduction
Xianliang Temple is located at the side gate of No. l03, Di’anmen West Street, Xicheng District. It was built in the eighth year of the Yongzheng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1730). The temple faces south and covers an area of approximately 740 square meters.
The main gate consists of three bays, and along the central axis are, in sequence, two stele pavilions—one on each side—both hexagonal, hip-and-gable roofed pavilions housing stone tablets inscribed with the imperial edict of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty establishing Xianliang Temple. The ceremonial gate has three bays, with stone lions on either side of the entrance, and side gates on each side of the ceremonial gate. The main hall has three bays with a projecting room, flanked by three-bay side halls on the east and west, five rear rooms, and three-bay wing rooms on the east and west.
Xianliang Temple was dedicated to commemorating meritorious princes, dukes, ministers, and other officials who contributed to the nation. The imperial plaque inscribed by Emperor Yongzheng read “Chong Zhong Nian Jiu” (Honoring Loyalty and Remembering the Past). Initially, the temple enshrined 78 individuals including princes, dukes, marquises, grand secretaries, ministers, left censors-in-chief, military commanders, generals, governors-general, provincial governors, and deputy commanders. Later, 21 more were added, making a total of 99 individuals honored here. It is a key cultural relic protection site in Xicheng District.
