Shunde Performing Arts Center

The Shunde Performing Arts Center is one of the buildings in the Shunde Cultural Center complex. It is a comprehensive grand theater and a key project in Shunde District’s cultural architecture. It also served as one of the major venues for Foshan City when hosting the 7th Asian Arts Festival.

The total construction area of the project is approximately 32,000 square meters, consisting of three parts: the grand theater, the concert hall, and auxiliary buildings. The grand theater has 1,500 seats and is divided into three underground levels (at -12 meters) and six above-ground levels (with a building height of 36 meters), while the concert hall has 500 seats.

The grand theater and the concert hall are each equipped with modern stage machinery, intelligent systems, lighting, and sound equipment. Once completed, the grand theater can host large-scale symphony performances, musicals, dramas, operas, and other comprehensive performing arts events, while the concert hall can accommodate performances of classical music, folk music, and modern music.

The design concept of the Shunde Performing Arts Center fully reflects the close relationship between the people of Shunde and water. To the southwest, a man-made lake covering an area of over 50,000 square meters is planned. The main building, the grand theater, is designed in the shape of a ship, with walls clad in natural aluminum composite panels. The walls are covered by a glass shell spanning more than 5,000 square meters, giving it the appearance of a glass ship sailing from afar.

Construction of the project began in December 2003. Its completion not only laid a solid foundation for the successful hosting of the 7th Asian Arts Festival and the realization of Shunde’s strategic goal of becoming a culturally strong district, but also significantly enhanced the cultural taste of Shunde District, enriched the urban spatial landscape, and increased the city’s artistic charm.

Daliang Subdistrict: Daliang, historically known as Taigeng, is also called Fengcheng because of a beautiful Phoenix Mountain located within the city. Situated in the central-eastern part of Shunde, Daliang connects to Guangzhou and neighbors Hong Kong and Macao, enjoying highly convenient land and water transportation. Historically, it was a renowned commercial hub in the Pearl River Delta region. Currently, Daliang is the seat of the Shunde District government and serves as the political, cultural, educational, and commercial center of Shunde.
