Tanxian Temple

Also known as Tan Gong Temple, it is situated in the middle section of Xiaotubufang in the southern part of Dafu Village, Zhangcha Subdistrict. The Tanxian deity worshipped here was brought from the ancestral Tan Gong Temple at Jiulongfeng, Huidong County. First constructed in the 28th year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1849) and completed the next year in the third month of the Yiyou spring season, it was renovated again in the 27th year of the Guangxu reign (1901). The temple spans an area of more than 300 square meters, featuring a three-courtyard depth with the rear courtyard housing the main hall, the central section serving as the incense pavilion, and an exquisitely refined layout. Inside, the temple boasts stunning lime carvings, brick carvings, and wood carvings. In front of the temple lies a clear stream with green water, and the Dongping River flows past the temple via Xiaobu sluice. During the 1940s, the annual birthday celebration of Tan Gong on the 26th day of the sixth lunar month was the most grand and lively folk event in the village, featuring opera performances, lion dances, and firecracker burning ceremonies that lasted three to four days. By the 1960s, the temple had been completely destroyed during the “Cultural Revolution.” In 2006, restoration efforts were resumed, and the surrounding area in front of the temple was expanded and improved.

In May 1998, it was designated as a Foshan Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
