Foshan Library is designated as a patriotic education base.

Foshan Library is a modern municipal-level library located in the city center of Foshan, adjacent to the world-renowned Foshan Ancestral Temple. With a floor area of nearly 18,000 square meters, the library houses a collection of 670,000 books, over 3,000 Chinese and foreign periodicals, as well as a substantial amount of electronic resources, making it one of the largest document and information centers in the Pearl River Delta.

In addition to standard reading rooms for books and periodicals, Foshan Library also features distinctive facilities such as a network information center, digital resource retrieval center, language lab, preschool children's reading room, and legal literature center, offering a total of 1,200 reader seats. Moreover, the library houses an exhibition hall, lecture hall, training center, and quick printing center, establishing it as a multifunctional, high-end, comprehensive cultural venue.

As one of the first patriotic education bases designated in Foshan in 1994, the library has been committed to strengthening the ideological and moral education of minors. Adapting to current needs for quality-oriented education, and while preserving traditional and effective programs, it innovatively develops new activities tailored to the interests and needs of students of different ages. A series of events have received widespread acclaim from schools, teachers, students, and the broader community, making the library a hub for extracurricular activities for primary and secondary school students.

Since 1995, the children’s department of the library has annually hosted a two-month-long patriotic film exhibition for primary and secondary schools, along with competitions such as “Primary School Students’ Storytelling Contest on Excellent Films” and “Secondary School Students’ Film Review Competition.” Regular events also include essay writing, painting, speech, web design contests, and legal knowledge competitions for students. Over the years, Foshan Library has persistently carried out a wide range of cultural and educational activities for young people, attracting active participation from youths across all districts of the city and sparking a wave of enthusiasm for reading good books. These initiatives have also deepened students' understanding of Foshan’s history, culture, and folk traditions, fostering greater love for their hometown and a sense of mission to contribute to its development.

Foshan Library boasts a broad readership and adheres to the principle of “readers first, service foremost,” actively providing high-quality services and organizing public reading activities. Since 1995, it has held weekend public lectures. Over the years, a series of high-level, multi-faceted lectures—such as “Chinese Classical Culture,” “Understanding Chinese Theories,” “Commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Lu Xun’s Birth,” “Getting to Know Foshan Culture,” “A New Journey, A New Youth, A New Culture,” and “The Four Levels of Reading”—have attracted residents from Foshan and neighboring areas, becoming a well-known brand in the city’s spiritual and cultural development.

As a flagship institution for spiritual civilization in Foshan, the library shoulders the responsibility of promoting, popularizing, and disseminating culture. It hosts an average of over 100 cultural events each year, featuring a diverse array of activities. In addition to art exhibitions such as photography, calligraphy, and painting, and cultural performances encompassing music, film, and fine arts, the library also organizes lectures on literature, economics, science and technology, and music, as well as artistic performances. Through these events, the library cultivates civic sentiment, enriches cultural life, and enhances the scientific and cultural literacy of residents.

Foshan Library has been honored with numerous titles, including National Advanced Cultural Collective, National First-Class Library, National Civilized Library, Readers’ Favorite Library, Guangdong Provincial Civilized Library, Foshan Spiritual Civilization Window, and Foshan Patriotic Education Base. It has played an active role in promoting Foshan’s local culture, building the city as a historical and cultural hub, enhancing urban competitiveness, boosting the city’s economic development, popularizing scientific knowledge, and enriching public cultural life.
