Longtang Poetry Society

The Longtang Poetry Society is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Foshan.

The Longtang Poetry Society was built in the early years of the Republic of China by Li Zhaogi, the owner of Li Zhongshengtang. The main building and the auxiliary building are laid out in an "L" shape, with their enclosing walls connected to the ancestral shop of Li Zhongshengtang. The main building is a two-story brick-and-wood structure in a Western-style imitation design, while the auxiliary building was added later.

The Longtang Poetry Society is one of the typical representatives of late Qing Dynasty brick-and-wood architecture in Foshan. It is located to the east of the ancestral shop of Li Zhongshengtang, the birthplace of Baoji Pills, where the original site was the factory's main pharmaceutical production facility. This factory was established in the early 20th century by Li Zhaogi, the founder of Li Zhongshengtang.

The architectural structures and courtyard landscape walls of the Longtang Poetry Society, along with the eastern exterior wall of the ancestral shop of Li Zhongshengtang to the west, enclose a central courtyard. With strong support from Li Zhaogi, the Shilong Poetry Society, originally located within Lushenyuan on Chaoshi Street (now near Shubu Street on Pujun North Road), was relocated to Wenming Lane. Later, with substantial funding from Li Zhaogi, the society members frequently gathered here, turning it into a refined venue where local literati and poets socialized through poetry. It was officially renamed the Longtang Poetry Society.
