Foshan Li Family Memorial Archway

Foshan Li Family Memorial Archway is located in the urban area of Foshan. Built in the 10th year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1637), it was originally situated within the Li Ancestral Hall (the memorial hall of Military Officer Li Shunru) in Chongqing Lane. It consists of a pair of archways that are completely identical in architectural style and structure. In 1960, they were relocated — one was placed at the Ancestral Temple Park to serve as a gateway, while the other was set at Xiuli Lake in Zhongshan Park as an entrance. The structure is a four-pillar, three-bay, three-story wooden and stone memorial archway, spanning 6.2 meters in total width. The base, pillars, and drum stones are made of grey sedimentary rock, with simple and classic carvings. The beams, camel hump blocks, and bracket sets are crafted from hardwood. The roof is a green-glazed tile hip-and-gable roof, featuring upturned eaves supported by bracket arms, along with ceramic sculptures of mythical fish, treasure balls, and floral and bird ridge ornaments.
