Former Residence of Chen Tiejun

The former residence of Chen Tiejun is a cultural relic protection unit of Foshan City.

The former residence of Chen Tiejun is located in Shangqingfang on Fuxian Road in the urban area of Foshan. It is where Chen Tiejun was born and spent her childhood. This is a typical two-courtyard residential building common in Foshan during the Qing Dynasty. The site still preserves the rooms where the martyr lived, as well as the furniture, stationery, seals, and embroidered items she made by hand.

The former residence of Chen Tiejun is a Qing Dynasty civilian building, featuring a north-facing orientation and a three-bay, two-courtyard layout. It has a flush gable roof, a gable in the shape of a Chinese character “人,” and is constructed with a brick-and-wood structure. This is where the martyr Chen Tiejun lived and spent her life. It serves as an important patriotic education site in Foshan City.

Chen Tiejun (1904–1928), female, originally named Xiejun, was from Xinning (present-day Taishan) and was born into a family of overseas Chinese merchants in Foshan Town, Nanhai. In the 8th year of the Republic of China (1919), influenced by the progressive anti-imperialist and anti-feudal ideas of the May Fourth Movement, she participated in distributing leaflets advocating gender equality, democracy, and science. In the 9th year of the Republic (1920), she transferred to the Jihua Girls' Primary School in Foshan, which followed a new educational system. After graduation, she broke free from the constraints of a feudal marriage and went to Guangzhou in search of revolutionary truth.
