Wan Hua Ancient Village

Wan Hua Village is located in the eastern part of Shiwan Town, Chancheng District, Foshan City, situated at the central core area of Foshan’s new urban district. With a long history dating back over 740 years since its founding, the village covers an area of 0.8 square kilometers and has a total population of 2,538 people. The major surnames include He, Liang, and Chen, with some villagers surnamed Huo, Li, and others. The floating population exceeds 3,000 people.

1. Pinglan Chen Ancestral Hall

Pinglan Chen Ancestral Hall is located in Xihua Village, Wan Hua, Shiwan Town, Chancheng District, Foshan City. Built in the third year of the Xuantong era of the Qing Dynasty (1911), it faces south with a slight westward orientation. The west wing rooms have been destroyed, and the hall now covers an area of 254 square meters. The building features exquisite craftsmanship and provides valuable insights into traditional Lingnan architecture and ancestral hall worship culture. In October 2006, it was designated as a Foshan Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit under Document No. 24 [2006] issued by the Foshan Government.

2. Beixi Liang Ancestral Hall

Beixi Liang Ancestral Hall is located in Wan Hua Village, Shiwan Town, Chancheng District, Foshan City. It is a Qing Dynasty structure that underwent renovation in 1995. The hall faces south and covers an area of 542 square meters. The building materials are of high quality, and the decorations carry vivid symbolic meanings. The wooden couplets hanging from the golden pillars were made around the same time as the completion of the ancestral hall. The front gate and rear hall are separated by a courtyard, with east and west corridors that include side rooms. The hall features brick carvings, murals, and other decorative elements. Beixi Liang Ancestral Hall serves as a tangible resource for studying Lingnan ancestral hall culture and architecture.

3. Wan Hua Oyster Shell Wall Ancient Residence

The Wan Hua Oyster Shell Wall Ancient Residence is located at No. 5, South Street 3rd Lane, Wan Hua Village Committee, Shiwan Town Subdistrict Office, Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. It is one of the relatively well-preserved oyster shell wall houses in the village. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty, the residence follows a typical three-bay, two-corridor layout with a front courtyard, main hall, and side rooms. It covers an area of 121.8 square meters. The west, north, and south walls are constructed with oyster shells, while the east wall serves as the entrance. The interior flooring is paved with traditional red clay bricks, showcasing the architectural style of residences from the late Ming and early Qing periods. It provides a physical example for studying local Ming and Qing residential buildings and construction materials.

1. Wan Hua Village enjoys a superior geographical location and beautiful surroundings. It borders Dongping River to the south, Kuiqi Road to the north, Lingnan Avenue to the west, with the Fochen Bridge to the left and the Dongping Bridge in the distance to the right, offering a majestic setting and convenient water and land transportation.

2. Within Chancheng District, bus route 123 provides direct access to the center of Wan Hua Village. Other bus routes that pass near the village include 106, 111, 116, 122, 155, 171, 174, 185A, and Gui 27.
