Wuguishan

Wuguishan was formerly known as "Xiangshan" (Fragrant Mountain). According to the *Taiping Huanyu Ji* (Record of the Taiping Era Around the World), Xiangshan County was located three hundred li south of Dongguan County across the sea, where the land abounded in divine flowers and plants—hence the name Xiangshan. It is the rooftop of both Zhongshan and Zhuhai cities. Towering over the Pearl River Estuary, Wuguishan encompasses seven towns and nine mountain ranges, such as Nantai Mountain in the Nantai Mountain Range, which is the site of the ancient “Autumn Gate of Nantai” scenic spot.

The main peak of Wuguishan stands at an elevation of 531 meters. Legends passed down through generations say that the Wuguishan area features natural landscapes known as the Grand Garden and the Little Garden, along with peculiar rocks, rare birds, flowing springs, and cascading waterfalls. Its scenery rivals other renowned landscapes of Lingnan, such as Xiqiao Mountain and Luofu Mountain.

Wuguishan is rich in wild flora such as bellflowers, azaleas, orchids, and agarwood. It also boasts lush plantations of pine, eucalyptus, fir, and acacia trees.

Wuguishan Subdistrict: Located in the southern part of Zhongshan City, Wuguishan covers an area of 100.84 square kilometers. It governs 4 village committees and 1 neighborhood committee, with a registered population of 7,592 and a non-registered population of 15,160. In 2006, adhering to the Scientific Outlook on Development to guide overall economic and social development, the subdistrict achieved new progress in economic construction, political development, cultural advancement, social progress, and Party building, marking a strong start to the 11th Five-Year Plan period.
