Nestled in the hinterland of Wuguishan in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, Xiaoyao Valley covers an area of tens of square kilometers in Yinxiang. It is one of the key tourism development projects in Zhongshan and is a natural ecological resort that combines leisure, vacation, fitness, entertainment, and business meetings. Currently, it is one of the city’s important tourist spots and was recognized by the Zhongshan Tourism Bureau in 2002 as the “Most Leisure-Oriented Scenic Spot.”

The unique advantage of Xiaoyao Valley lies in its location within the Wuguishan mountain range, a significant mountain system on the southeastern coast of Guangdong, covering 300 square kilometers. The Wuguishan range is 26 kilometers wide in the north and 15 kilometers wide in the south, with its main peak rising 541.6 meters above sea level. It features a granite landform, with a majestic and steep five-kilometer-long fault cliff on the southern slope, while the northern slope boasts verdant, undulating peaks. The scenic area is surrounded by mountains such as Damo Mountain (341m), Shizhai Mountain (417m), Yuzipai (496m), Matianling (319m), and Baifentou (254m). From the highest peak, visitors can use binoculars to view many cities in the Pearl River Delta, as well as Macau and Hong Kong’s new airport, creating a feeling of “overlooking a multitude of cities from on high.”

The main sections of the scenic area include the Cultural Square Area, Jade Silver Stream, Eco-Scenic Area, Amusement Center, Camping Zone, Natural Landscape Swimming Pool, Purple Bamboo Grove (Guanyin Temple) Area, Revolutionary Site Memorial Area of the Zhujiang Column, Lovers’ Valley, Vacation Center, Shopping Promenade, and Thousand-Person BBQ Field. In the 1980s, [a notable figure] hiked across Wuguishan and left behind the famous quote, “Never look back.”

The scenic area has well-preserved its pristine forest landscape, featuring dense vegetation, blooming wildflowers, murmuring streams, crisscrossing valleys, clear springs, uniquely shaped rocks, shaded woods, and fresh air. Xiaoyao Valley is also a natural botanical museum, home to over 610 species of evergreen monsoon forest plants. The area has an extremely high concentration of negative ions, exceeding 80,000 per cubic centimeter—over a thousand times higher than in urban areas. Negative ions play a vital role in human health, accelerating cell metabolism, improving blood circulation and heart vitality, beautifying the skin, extending lifespan, purifying the blood, relieving insomnia and headaches, easing neuralgia, back pain, and high blood pressure, restoring vitality, and treating many chronic diseases. The valley’s aromatic plants also have antibacterial properties.

Xiaoyao Valley is celebrated for its natural scenery, boasting beautiful mountains and clear waters. The Purple Bamboo Grove's Gui Pond is hailed as the “Zhongshan Jiuzhaigou,” and the high-altitude rainbow fountain is a unique spectacle in Zhongshan. The scenic area is crisscrossed by the Golden Stream and the Silver Stream (Bamboo Stream), with waterfalls and springs flowing year-round. The surrounding mountains rise over 400 meters, offering panoramic views from Lover’s Peak, where visitors can take in the landscape of Wuguishan. On clear days, Zhuhai and Macau are also visible.

The scenic area currently features over 30 attractions. The natural ecological zone includes Nine Lotus Pond, Rolling Stone Valley Waterfall, Seventh Sister Tree, White Horse Fairy Cave, Slender Bamboo Flat, and Ginseng Cave, all brimming with the charm of mountain forests and the wonder of unique rocks. The area also encompasses the Yinxiang Reservoir, Boat Bottom Hollow Reservoir, and Nantou Reservoir, with waters as blue as jade and untouched natural beauty. It is truly a rare paradise downstream of the Pearl River Delta and an ideal place for spiritual cultivation. Xiaoyao Valley is also a year-round fruit garden, offering fresh starfruit, lychee, longan, wampee, persimmon, pomelo, tangerine, orange, and various wild fruits throughout the seasons.
