Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park is located south of downtown Zhongshan, at the junction of Xingzhong Road and Chenggui Road, situated within the new Zhongshan scenic area known as "Xingzhong Embroidered Brocade." Covering an area of 26.6 hectares, the park was fully completed and opened to the public on November 12, the birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, in 1996. The plaque of the park was inscribed by the renowned Taiwanese calligrapher and master of Lingnan-style traditional Chinese painting, Professor Ou Haonian. Unlike other tourist attractions, this park does not charge an entrance fee, allowing visitors to enter and explore freely.

Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park was mainly built on two gently sloping hillsides and is divided into two functional areas: the Revolutionary Memorial Area and the Comprehensive Sightseeing Area. The Revolutionary Memorial Area focuses on commemorating Dr. Sun Yat-sen, featuring a bronze statue of him, a fountain, as well as the Pine Garden, Bamboo Garden, Plum Garden, and Dragon Cypress Hill planted with 999 dragon cypresses. Directly opposite the Revolutionary Memorial Area is the Comprehensive Sightseeing Area, which includes attractions such as "Fragrant Hill," "Flying Rock," "One-Line Sky," "Water Curtain Cave," "Observation Pavilion," and "Welcoming Sun Rock." The entire park emphasizes the theme of "commemoration," with the layout of its attractions closely centered around this theme.

Entering through the park’s main gate and ascending the stone steps built from granite archways, you will arrive at the Revolutionary Memorial Area. Here, the first things that catch your eye are the lush, upright dragon cypresses on both sides and six tall ornamental pillars, creating a solemn and respectful atmosphere. Walking up the granite steps, you will quickly reach the mountaintop platform, where you will be greeted by the towering, majestic statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Looking north following the gaze of Dr. Sun’s statue, you can take in the full view of downtown Zhongshan, a modern and dynamic city filled with high-rise buildings. Especially noteworthy is Xingzhong Road—wide, straight, and bustling with traffic—which is known as "Xingzhong Embroidered Brocade," showcasing the grandeur and vibrancy of Zhongshan, the hometown of the great man. To the east, you’ll see the broad Chenggui Highway, Bo’ai Road, and the skyscrapers of the new urban area. To the south lies the Bo’ai Hospital, built with donations raised from Zhongshan’s iconic Charity Walk. From the foot of Dr. Sun’s statue, visitors can admire not only the hospital’s unique architectural style but also feel the compassion of the people of Zhongshan. To the west is the beautifully landscaped Comprehensive Sightseeing Area of the park. Of course, by descending the steps behind Dr. Sun’s statue, visitors can also explore attractions such as the Pine Garden, Bamboo Garden, and Plum Garden.

Between the Revolutionary Memorial Area and the Comprehensive Sightseeing Area of Sun Yat-sen Park lies a vast lawn. Lush green grass covers the lawn, with pavilions and waterside pavilions nestled among green trees and blooming flowers on one side, while stone sculptures and coconut trees display a tropical vibe on the other. Following the pedestrian walkway through the center of the lawn, you’ll soon arrive at the Comprehensive Sightseeing Area.

Upon arriving at the Comprehensive Sightseeing Area, the first thing you’ll notice is the powerful inscription of "The Latecomers Surpass the Former" ("Hou Lai Ju Shang") written by Dr. Sun Yat-sen himself. Ascending the steps along the pathways, you will enter the Fragrant Hill Garden. Here, you’ll find breathtaking scenery everywhere. The massive "Flying Rock"; the uniquely crafted "One-Line Sky," though artificially made; the "Water Curtain Cave," surrounded by towering rocks, weeping willows, and the sound of flowing water; and the "Observation Pavilion," which offers views of the entire garden as well as panoramic scenes of downtown Shiqi in Zhongshan—all are captivating and unforgettable. Notably, there is also an Azalea Garden planted with nearly 30,000 azaleas. Every year from March to April, when spring is in full bloom, the hillsides covered in blooming azaleas turn the garden into a sea of flowers and a sea of people. The vibrant azaleas, coupled with colorful windmills swaying in the breeze, create a charming and romantic scene. During this time, whether you’re a visitor from out of town, a local resident, or even a migrant worker usually too busy with work to travel, everyone will try their best to come here to enjoy the flowers and take photos.

Perhaps it’s because Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park is truly too beautiful, or perhaps it’s because the park skillfully balances both commemorative and leisure functions—whatever the reason, this serene spot in the heart of Zhongshan is bustling with visitors every day.
