Xiaolan Town People's Park is located in the center of Xiaolan Town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province. It boasts serene scenery, with evergreen bamboo and trees on the hills and lush gardens at the foot. Since the Song Dynasty, this area has been a renowned garden and scenic spot. After the Ming Dynasty, a popular local rhyme describing the scenery of Xiaolan circulated: “Five pines, six roads, three branching streams; one cave of plum blossoms, twelve bridges; year after year the yellow flowers never fade, poets gather to drink and admire the floral villages.” After 1949, the People’s Government transformed the area into a public park. The park features structures such as the Phoenix Terrace, Phoenix Pool, fountains, and traditional pavilions, all embodying the distinctive characteristics of Lingnan-style gardens. On the hill within the park lies the “Xiaolan Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery,” which covers an area of 16,300 square meters, including a burial ground of 2,500 square meters. It is the resting place of the remains of 60 revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the revolution and the War of Resistance against Japan. These martyrs came from four local areas—Xiaolan, Xiaolan, Nantou, and Fusha (most of the former third and ninth districts of Zhongshan County). The cemetery is inscribed with the names and epitaphs of the martyrs for future generations to pay their respects.
