Tomb of Yang Xianyi

The Tomb of Yang Xianyi is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Tomb of Yang Xianyi faces south and is backed by the north, with a circular mound in front of the burial site. The granite stele features carvings of floral patterns, dragons, and phoenixes at the top, and the seal script characters “Fu Lu Shou” (meaning Prosperity, Wealth, and Longevity) are inscribed below. The inscription on the stele reads: “Tomb of Mr. Yang Xianyi,” and the signature beneath, “Inscribed by Sun Wen,” is the actual handwriting of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. The tomb covers an area of 42 square meters.

After Yang Xianyi’s sacrifice, he was buried at Sanwangang within Huanghuagang in Guangzhou. In 1927, when the Guangdong Provincial Government renovated the tomb, his family, citing the great distance from their hometown and the inconvenience for descendants to pay respects, had his remains transferred back to Zhongshan for reburial, carried out by his elder brother Yang Jianglin and father-in-law Cheng Youyi, among others.

The martyr Yang Xianyi (1891–1923) was born into an overseas Chinese family. His courtesy name was Xuehua and his pseudonym Tie’an. He was a native of Xiangshan County, Guangdong Province (now Zhongshan City). His father, Yang Zhukun, was a renowned overseas Chinese businessman based in Hawaii and was known in the late Qing Dynasty as one of “China’s Two Sugar Kings.” Yang Zhukun was a close friend of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, supported his revolutionary cause, and provided substantial financial backing. As a child, Yang Xianyi was deeply influenced by Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary ideas.
