The Lion Rock Ancient Marine Erosion Site is located in Shengshi Village, Shaxi, and consists of Cretaceous red sandy conglomerate rock. Its marine erosion caves, cliffs, and platforms are the most typical features, serving as the most complete specimen of crustal uplift in the Pearl River Delta. It is currently the most well-preserved and unique natural landscape in the entire province, and is also an irreplaceable, highly valuable natural heritage.

Shengshi Village: Introduction to Shengshi Village

Shengshi Village is located approximately 2.68 kilometers northwest of the Shaxi Town government. It has a current population of over 4,390. Shengshi was originally part of the northern region of the ancient Xiangjiao Township. The name "Shengshi" originates from the ancient bay known as Shengshi Bay, located to the east of Lion Rock within the village, where "Sheng" carries connotations of sacredness and purity. In 1945, during the merger of larger townships, the ancient Xiangjiao Township, Daxingfang, and Lanxia Village were combined into one large township, and the name "Shengshi" was used for the township for the first time.
