The Baolingliufang Memorial Archway

The Baolingliufang Memorial Archway is located in Zhenyi Village. Built in the 18th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1838), it is a four-pillar, three-bay open-through stone archway standing 5 meters tall. The front of the archway features the raised relief inscription “Baolingliufang” (A Hundred Years of Virtue Endures) in regular script carved in stone, with the two characters “聖旨” (Imperial Edict) embedded above. The reverse side is inscribed with “Shengping Renrui” (Longevity in Peaceful Times), with the characters “恩荣” (Imperial Favor) engraved above. The inscriptions and designs on both the front and back are symmetrical and unified. The archway was bestowed upon the village’s centenarian, the literary official He Yuxiang, by the Qing emperor, and it still stands in front of the home of his great-great-grandson, He Xiangji. He Xiangji is a well-known entrepreneur in Huangpu and is actively involved in philanthropic causes.

Zhenyi Village: Located on the outskirts of Huangpu Town, Zhenyi Village is the birthplace of Greater Huangpu. It originated during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, boasting a long history and rich cultural heritage. The village is home to numerous historical relics and natural attractions, including ancient camphor trees over 500 years old; the Baolingliufang Memorial Archway, bestowed by Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty and built during his reign; an ancient dragon boat named “Beixi Xiancong” with nearly 200 years of history; as well as ancestral halls and temples such as the He and Li Clan Ancestral Halls, the Shuaizhu Temple, and the Hongsheng Temple, which were established during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The entrance gate of the village committee building is also part of an ancestral hall gate from the Qing Dynasty, belonging to one of the He family’s ancestral structures.
