Shangtang Huaguang Hall

Shangtang Huaguang Hall is located next to the Shangtang Elderly Activity Center in Shachong Community, South District, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province. It was first built in the third year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1864), and underwent renovations during the Guangxu reign and again in 2007. The entire structure consists of three temples built side by side, oriented from northeast to southwest, with a total width of 20.53 meters, a depth of 15.21 meters, and an area of approximately 312 square meters. All three temples feature flush gable roofs, grey plaster carvings of flowers and birds on the ridges, grey brick walls, green-glazed roof tiles and drips, and red brick flooring. The stone-carved ornaments on the upturned eaves corners, along with the mural paintings depicting historical stories on the wall friezes, showcase intricate details. The western section is the Golden Flower Temple, a two-bay, two-courtyard structure; the central part is Huaguang Hall, a single-bay, two-courtyard building; and the eastern section is the Kang Zhenjun Temple, also a single-bay, two-courtyard temple. The entire complex preserves the architectural style of Qing Dynasty altar and temple buildings, featuring relatively exquisite decorations and holding certain cultural value.
