Longxue Site

The Longxue Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhongshan City.

The Longxue Site is located southeast of Longxue Village, Nanlang Town, Zhongshan City. It dates back to the middle Neolithic Age. The site covers an area of approximately 5,000 square meters. Discovered in 1986, it has undergone two excavations totaling 310 square meters. The unearthed pottery mainly consists of sand-tempered reddish-brown pottery and clay-based red pottery, with common decorative patterns including cord marks, striations, and reddish-brown painted designs, as well as a small number of incised and stamped patterns. Major vessel types include sand-tempered pottery cauldrons, jars, pedestals, and supports, as well as painted pottery beans and ring-footed plates. Stone tools found at the site include adzes, beaters, disc-shaped objects, balls, and chipped pointed implements. In 1990, the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government designated it as a cultural relic protection unit of Zhongshan City. Additionally, bronze axes, stone molds for bronze casting, and pottery decorated with twisted patterns, thundercloud motifs, and kui dragon designs have been discovered near the site, suggesting a later date to the Bronze Age.

Designated as a cultural relic protection unit by the Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government in 1990.
