Former Site of Si Hao Grand Hotel

The former site of the Si Hao Grand Hotel is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhongshan City.

The Si Hao Grand Hotel is located at No. 150 Sunwen West Road, on the former site of the “Heungshan Bank.” The Heungshan Bank building was initially built in the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924) as a private bank founded by Guo Si Quan, an overseas Chinese returning from Australia. The building, constructed of reinforced concrete, exhibits a Southeast Asian architectural style and covers a total area of over 300 square meters. The Heungshan Bank, however, was short-lived—its business ceased after just two or three years—and the building was later rented out to other businesses. During the Anti-Japanese War, it suffered bombings by Japanese forces and was reduced to rubble. After the war, Li De’er, then president of the County Chamber of Commerce, returned to his hometown and promptly purchased the site. He quickly built a five-story hotel there, naming it the Si Hao Grand Hotel. It became the most luxurious hotel in Shiqi at the time and a landmark building of the city.
