Shenwan Harbor Ancient Village

The Harbor Village is located in the southwest of Shenwan Town, formed by the merger of three natural villages: Dapai, Mangchong, and Modao. The village covers an area of approximately nine square kilometers and has a permanent population of over 3,000.

Dapai faces Doumen across the river to the west. It is said that this area became a sandbank in the early years of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty, commonly known as "Shazai" (little sand). In the early Xianfeng years, people began to settle and reclaim the land, and by the early Tongzhi years, an embankment was built, with a water channel dug from west to east through the middle of the embankment. Due to the abundance of river sand, locals often came to dig sand, and thus it was called "Dabasha" (meaning "a lot of sand" in Cantonese), which later evolved phonetically into "Dapai Sha." The settlement is distributed in a linear fashion along both the southern and northern banks of Erwei Yong.

Mangchong began to see human settlement around the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty (1821–1850). As the area was originally a barren hill covered with tall wild grass (mang grass), and there was a water channel named Mang Yong, the village was accordingly called Mangchong. The settlement is distributed in a linear fashion at the northern foot of Modao Mountain.

Modao got its name because its terrain resembles a knife, and it is located at the center of the mouth of the Modaomen Waterway. The rushing river water resembles the sharpening motion of a knife on a grindstone, hence the name.
