The Agro-Science Wonder is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a science education base.

Located at Shuanglong Mountain in Meixi, Zhuhai, the Agro-Science Wonder spans 2,000 acres. It is an agricultural research and demonstration base directly under the Zhuhai municipal government. As China’s first opened agricultural tourism and sightseeing park, it is also a modern sightseeing farm set in a beautiful environment that showcases high-tech agriculture. Relying on modern agricultural technology, the Agro-Science Wonder has created a miracle of soilless cultivation where crops blossom and bear fruit year-round, staying lush in all seasons. Here, various rare and unique vegetables, fruits, and large, sweet Hami melons are grown on troughs; vibrant red roses thrive in gravel; and Phalaenopsis orchids, known as the "elegant guests among flowers," are cultivated in bottles.

This is a tourist base themed around soilless cultivation agriculture, combining modern high-tech agricultural production landscapes with traditional farming landscapes for sightseeing.

A range of modern greenhouses grow over 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, and flowers year-round, offering breathtaking sights. Lush green lawns, premium fruit trees, and specialized gardens such as the asparagus garden, lotus garden, Phalaenopsis garden, Bagua garden, and shade-loving plant garden provide immersive natural experiences. Various entertainment facilities, like water wheels and climbing games, offer fun and a taste of rural life. There are also traditional looms reminiscent of the phrase "click-clack goes the loom, as Mulan weaves at her door," bringing visitors back to old rural days and offering city dwellers a chance to reconnect with simplicity. Urbanites accustomed to gourmet food can try freshly picked fruits and vegetables here, paired with brown rice or corn porridge, for a taste of a humble, rustic lifestyle.

The Zhuhai Agro-Science Center has evolved into a comprehensive agricultural research institution integrating agricultural biotechnology, greenhouse soilless cultivation, tissue culture, genetics, and other high-tech methods. It focuses on the introduction, breeding, and seedling development of premium domestic and international vegetables, fruits, flowers, and ornamental plants using modern facilities and scientific management. The center combines agricultural research, production, sightseeing, education, training, development, and demonstration. It is also a national base for demonstrating the introduction of foreign intellectual achievements, a Guangdong provincial high-tech enterprise, a provincial and municipal "three-high" (high yield, high quality, high efficiency) agricultural research and production demonstration base, a leading agricultural enterprise in Zhuhai, a founding unit of China’s science education bases, a youth science and technology education base, a Zhuhai student agro-science education and military training base, a provincial environmental education base, and a postdoctoral workstation for Huazhong Agricultural University.

Transportation: Buses 26, 99, and the Western Line Sightseeing Bus have direct routes to the site.

Desert Botanical Garden is a large modern glass greenhouse covering an area of 2,000 square meters, featuring a trendy exterior. In addition to maintaining the base’s signature soilless cultivation, the garden is distinctly characterized by growing over 100 types of long-lived, drought-resistant, and tall tropical desert plants, many of which are rare species worldwide. This unique feature gives the garden its name, and it is fondly dubbed the "Desert Capital" by Hong Kong’s tourism industry.

The garden houses two treasured specimens: a pair of 38-year-old golden barrel cacti (Echinocactus grusonii), each with a diameter of one meter, which made their way from Mexico across the ocean to settle here. Additionally, visitors can see the extremely rare ancestor of cacti—the leafy cactus—in China, and learn about various aloe varieties, known as natural skincare treasures, broadening both horizons and knowledge.

The Desert Botanical Garden currently hosts over 150 types of cacti, succulents, jade pillars, and aloe plants, all with unique shapes and peculiar forms. Grafted cacti and succulents display diverse and colorful postures. Various cacti are meticulously arranged into artistic patterns, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. The entire glass greenhouse, along with the vivid camel sculptures and Loess Plateau backdrop at the rear, creates a majestic atmosphere, making visitors feel as though they are in a real desert.

Soilless Vegetable Garden: Soilless-cultivated melons have short growth cycles, quick market readiness, and can be planted year-round. Varieties include white-skinned melons, cucumbers, watermelons, netted melons, and Hami melons. Hydroponically grown melons are crisp, sweet, safe, free from pesticide contamination and toxins. The soilless cultivation system practices crop rotation. Thus, the soilless production greenhouses remain lush and fruitful all year, providing visitors with fresh, sweet soilless fruits for purchase on-site.

Rare Vegetable and Fruit Garden (also known as the Modern Agriculture Pavilion) is a newly built large-scale modern agricultural exhibition greenhouse covering approximately 1,500 square meters. The pavilion primarily uses modern soilless cultivation techniques to grow and produce a variety of novel, unique agricultural products (including rare varieties of leafy greens, beans, fruits, and melons). It features artfully designed climbing frames, sloped pipes, and vertical column plantings, resulting in a uniquely arranged and well-spaced display of plants.

The Flower Exhibition Garden has two shaded plant greenhouses cultivating hundreds of varieties of shade-loving foliage and flowering plants. These include precious Phalaenopsis and dancing ladies, foliage plants like Dumb Cane, Green Giant, Green Boy, and Mimosa, as well as exquisitely designed miniature potted plants by technicians—convenient, attractive, and captivating, making visitors linger and reluctant to leave.

The greenhouse mainly cultivates various Phalaenopsis orchids. By visiting the greenhouse, guests can learn about the entire orchid production process, from cloning and seedling cultivation to planting and flowering management. They can also discover orchid tissue culture and soilless cultivation techniques, uncovering the secrets behind the challenges of orchid cultivation and maintenance. Guests can admire vast, spectacular seas of blooming orchids. Thanks to high-tech cultivation methods, the Phalaenopsis are vibrant and bloom for up to four months. White orchids exude elegance, while red ones radiate passion, fluttering like butterflies in play. With the greenhouse's moderate temperature and humidity, being in this floral world is truly refreshing and mesmerizing.
