Longchang Temple is located at No. 3, Beisan Tiao Hutong, Xisi. It was built in the 45th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty (1617) as an auxiliary site to the Han Tripitaka Printing Office. It was renovated in the 21st year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1756).
The temple faces south and is arranged along a central axis that includes, in sequence, a single-door mountain gate inscribed with the stone plaque “Sacred Long-lasting Temple,” a Hall of Heavenly Kings with three bays, bell and drum towers, a Mahavira Hall with three bays, a rear hall with five bays, as well as side halls and monks’ quarters. The Hall of Heavenly Kings houses statues of the Four Heavenly Kings and Skanda; the Mahavira Hall enshrines the Three Great Bodhisattvas, the Eighteen Arhats, the Five Dhyani Buddhas, and the Twenty-four Devas; the rear hall is dedicated to Guanyin, Bodhidharma, and the Thousand-Armed and Thousand-Eyed Guanyin. Except for the bronze Five Dhyani Buddhas, which were moved to Fayuan Temple, none of these remain today. It is a protected cultural relic of Xicheng District.
