Qianshan Zhongshan Pavilion

Qianshan Zhongshan Pavilion is the only memorial structure in China personally inaugurated by Dr. Sun Yat-sen himself, who laid the foundation with a shovel. It is located on the hillside behind Meihua Village in the northeast of Qianshan Town, beside the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Highway, and was initially built in 1921. It is now a key cultural relic protection unit of Zhuhai City.

After resigning as provisional president in April 1912, Dr. Sun Yat-sen devoted himself to social revolution, touring various southern provinces. Passing through Nanjing and then via Hong Kong and Macau, he returned to his hometown—Cuiheng Village, Xiangshan County. On the morning of May 27, he attended a welcoming ceremony held by over ten thousand local residents in the Qianshan area and delivered an impromptu speech. During the event, villagers proposed building a pavilion to commemorate the occasion, to which Dr. Sun readily agreed and laid the foundation stone. Just over ten days later, a four-pillared brick-and-wood pavilion was completed. The following autumn, the pavilion was destroyed by a typhoon. It was rebuilt in 1923, and in 1925, to commemorate the passing of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, it was officially named “Zhongshan Memorial Pavilion.” In 1986, on the occasion of the commemoration of Dr. Sun's birth, the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government renovated the pavilion.

Qianshan Subdistrict: Located southwest of downtown Zhuhai, Qianshan has been a port since the 22nd year of the Shaoxing era during the Southern Song Dynasty. The town wall was constructed in the first year of the Tianqi era during the Ming Dynasty. Qianshan was officially established as a town in 1987 and was restructured from a “town to subdistrict” in August 2001. Covering an area of 53 square kilometers, it has a permanent population of 178,000, including over 48,000 registered residents, and administers 21 community neighborhood committees. The subdistrict is home to the prestigious Jinan University Zhuhai Campus, notable tourist attractions such as Yuanming New Garden, Meixi Memorial Arches, and the Agricultural Science and Horticulture Center, as well as the SC International Plaza, one of the largest building materials distribution hubs in South China.
