Hengqin Island, Zhuhai

Hengqin Island is located in Hengqin Town, Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, adjacent to Macau to the east, and is the largest island in Zhuhai. Driving just 30 minutes south from downtown Zhuhai and crossing the Hengqin Bridge, you’ll find yourself on the island’s broad boulevards. To the left, the three islands of Macau are clearly visible, separated from Zhuhai by just a narrow river.

Hengqin Island features numerous bays, long sandy beaches, rugged rocks, and fresh air. It is about 3 km from Macau Airport, approximately 8 km from Zhuhai Airport, and 41 nautical miles from Hong Kong. The island stretches 8.6 km from north to south and about 7 km from east to west. It has a planned area of 86 square kilometers, with 402 square kilometers of land available for development. It is home to the national first-class Hengqin Port, the Lotus Bridge that connects to Macau, and is also famous for its renowned seafood delicacy — Hengqin Oysters. The island has 3 communities and 12 natural villages.

The island contains relics of an ancient battlefield from the Southern Song Dynasty. Hengqin Island is rich in tourism resources, especially known for its fresh oysters, which are famed for being “large, plump, white, tender, and crisp,” making them a renowned dish on the tables of Zhuhai. During holidays, visitors from the Pearl River Delta and beyond flock to Hengqin Island to savor its oyster delicacies. The island also features attractions such as Tianhu Lake Scenic Area, Sandie Spring, Ocean Park, and Stone Expo Garden, with plans underway to build a large zoo.
