Site of the Former Soldiers and Civilians' Grievance Meeting — Zhongcun Weitou

The Site of the Former Soldiers and Civilians' Grievance Meeting — Zhongcun Weitou is a cultural relics protection unit of Zhuzhou City.

In mid-March 1928, the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army arrived in Zhongcun. To mobilize the masses widely and carry out the land revolution, the troops and the County Committee of Yanling County held a Soldiers and Civilians' Grievance Meeting attended by over 3,000 people at Zhongcun Weitou. The meeting was chaired by Liu Yinsheng, Secretary of the County Committee. Mao Zedong cited facts about how local landlords and gentry exploited the peasants, explained revolutionary principles in simple terms, and called on everyone to rise up against the landlords and divide the land. More than ten poor peasants took turns to come forward and denounce the crimes of the landlords and gentry. Based on the demands of the masses, two particularly egregious landlords and gentry were executed on the spot. The grievance meeting raised the class consciousness of the soldiers and civilians. After the meeting, the movement to post land ownership signs and distribute land was widely carried out in more than ten villages including Dao’ren, Lianxi, and Longtan. In 1997, the Soldiers and Civilians' Grievance Platform was restored to its former condition.

The Soldiers and Civilians' Grievance Meeting was a prelude to the “Posting Signs and Dividing Land” movement in Zhongcun. It enlightened the class consciousness of the peasant masses, ignited their revolutionary fervor, and promoted the in-depth development of the land revolution. The site holds high historical value.
