Hengnan Qingquan Mountain

Qingquan Mountain is located in Quanxi Town in the eastern part of Hengnan County, about 9.8 kilometers from downtown Hengyang City. It stands at an elevation of 158 meters and covers an area of 2 square kilometers, adjacent to the Lei River. Though not particularly high, it is well known across the Heng-Yue region, and the former name of Hengnan County—Qingquan County—was derived from this mountain. The mountain features the Ancient City Temple and the Listening-to-the-Spring Pavilion. At its foot, a clear spring flows gently, but what’s remarkable is that there is also a spring on the mountain ridge. This mysterious spring is unfathomably deep, and its well connects underground with the sandy river. The water remains warm in winter and cool in summer. Nestled among the lush forests are farmhouses built against the mountains, dotting the landscape of green hills, clear waters, and exotic flowers and plants, resembling the “Peach Blossom Spring” described by Tao Yuanming. The “Linglu Wine,” brewed with spring water from the mountain, was once an imperial tribute in various dynasties.

In recent years, with the gradual improvement of tourism facilities, the number of visitors coming to Qingquan Mountain for hiking, leisure, sightseeing, and Buddhist worship has been increasing year by year.
