Niutacai Stone in Xiling Town

Niutacai Stone is located in Xiling Town at an altitude of over 900 meters. Legend has it that in ancient times, Pangu rode a divine ox, which stepped on a rock here, leaving behind a footprint — hence the name "Niutacai Stone" (Ox-Stepped Stone). To this day, the faint imprint of the “ox’s footprint” can still be seen. In the early Tang Dynasty, an ancient temple was built on the main peak of Niutacai Stone. Due to the high elevation and strong winds, the temple’s roof was entirely covered with iron tiles (which have long since been destroyed). Even today, the site remains spiritually active with continuous incense offerings. Standing atop the main peak, you can look east to Leiyang, south to Guiyang, northeast to Hengdong, west to Qidong, southwest to Qiyang, north to Hengzhou, and northwest to Hengnan. The rolling hills and mountains are arranged in an orderly fashion, forming a vast green ocean — a spectacular sight. The naturally formed, picturesque landscapes resemble exquisite traditional ink paintings, bringing a sense of peace and delight to all who visit.
