Jiangzhou Site
The Jiangzhou Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hunan Province.
The Shuikoushan Jiangzhou Site is the earliest and most archaeologically and academically significant ancient relic discovered so far in all of Hengyang’s archaeological findings. It is located in Xiaozhou Village, Shuikoushan Town, Changning City, situated at the confluence of three rivers. This site contains a building complex that dates back approximately 12,000 years — an extremely rare find nationwide; it also has remains of a high-level, large-scale village from the Western Zhou Dynasty, as well as workshops for smelting and casting bronze ware, pushing back Hunan’s metallurgical history by 2,000 years. It stands as the most magnificent and spectacular Western Zhou Dynasty ancient city site discovered in Hunan to date.
In March 2019, the Jiangzhou Site was included in the tenth batch of provincial-level protected cultural heritage sites in Hunan Province.
Shuikoushan Town: “Songbai Town and Shuikoushan Subdistrict” were merged to form “Shuikoushan Town.”
Shuikoushan Subdistrict is located in Changning City, Hunan Province, to the north of Changning. In 2009, six administrative villages — Xiangxiang, Songyang, Xinhua, Qingnian, Shucai, and Songbai — and 20 community committees — Songhua, Meiji, Yanjiang, Kaiyuan, Songbai, Sanyuan, Wenming Road, Xiaozhou, Changqing, Songyang, Daqiao, Xingyuan, Yunshu, Hangyun, Jiaochang, Doudong, Douxi, Yonghong, Oujiazhou, and Nianyu — were separated from Songbai Town, Changning City, to establish Shuikoushan Subdistrict Office.
