The Wangzigang Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Wangzigang Site is located in Wangdigang Village, Dengdi Township, Lingling District, Yongzhou City, a place with a long and rich history. Dating from the late Neolithic Age to the Shang and Zhou dynasties, it is a cultural site with diverse characteristics and rich connotations.

The Wangzigang Site is located on the right bank of the Fu River, a tributary of the Xiao River, and covers a total area of approximately 100,000 square meters. Its central area is situated on a horse-shoe shaped hillside, which is about 400 meters long and 100 meters wide, extending in a northeast direction. The central area of the site spans 5,000 square meters. The cultural layers of the site reach a depth of 1–2 meters and are divided into eight strata. A total of five groups of architectural remains have been discovered, among which the Type-A shaped and circular semi-subterranean structures are relatively rare in archaeological sites from the same period and were found for the first time in southern Hunan. Twenty-one tombs from the Neolithic Age to the early Shang and Zhou periods have also been uncovered, including early Shang and Zhou tombs that were found for the first time in the Xiangjiang River basin and exhibit distinct characteristics of ancient Yue people’s burial practices. The discovery of ancient Yue tombs and human skeletal remains provides important evidence for studying the biological traits of the ancient Yue people, the dating of the Wangzigang Site, and the lifestyle of its inhabitants at the time. The clear stratigraphic superimposition of living surfaces, along with the bronze Yue axe, jade ring fragments, and abundant pottery and stone tools unearthed at the site, indicate the southward spread of the Shijiahe culture from the Dongting Lake region. These findings offer solid material for exploring the origins and historical development of ancient Yue culture.

The site has now been submitted for designation as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
