Huangyangsi Kiln Site

The Huangyangsi Kiln Site is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hunan Province, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

Huangyangsi Kiln Site

It is situated on the banks of the Xiang River between Taojiazhou and Qianjiazhou in Huangyangsi Town, Lengshuitan District, Yongzhou City. There are five kilns arranged in sequence, each about 50 to 70 meters apart. The kiln chambers are elongated and sloping, and the pottery was fired in saggars. The glaze colors are bluish-yellow or light yellow, with either crackled or uncrackled surfaces. About 90% of the pottery bodies were coated with a slip, giving them a brick-red hue. The main vessel types are bowls and dishes, along with cups, bottles, jars, and pots. Bowls and dishes often feature impressed floral medallions or text, with patterns including lotuses, chrysanthemums, butterflies, and geometric designs. The impressed texts include family name inscriptions such as “Tang” and “He,” as well as coin inscriptions like “Kaiyuan Tongbao” and “Songyuan Tongbao.” Around 90% of the bowls have round mouths.
